Black women face maternal mortality rates more than three times higher than white women, disparities that hold even when controlling for income and education. Recent developments from the FDA mark a significant step forward for women’s health. The agency has announced plans to remove misleading black box warnings from hormone replacement therapy (HRT) products—warnings that have long fueled confusion and fear among patients and providers. Experts emphasize that for most healthy women, especially those who begin HRT around the time of menopause, the therapy is both safe and effective for relieving symptoms.
